Club News - Sheffield City Kayak Club


28 Jul	Due to coaches holidays coinciding we have unfortunately had to suspend sessions until the 15th August - this is so we can make sure that all our sessions are fully covered by our insurance, something I think you will all agree is paramount and we hope this does not cause too many problems.

08 Jul	Debbie has asked me to mention that a BBQ is being held to celebrate the birthday of our Chairman - its on the 23rd July from about 7pm. Good food, Great friends and probably plenty of alcohol comsumption will be the order of the night. Please contact Debbie to let her know whether you will be coming along. Thanks.

08 Jul	Tonights river session has unfortunately had to be cancelled - after last weekend and next weekend still to do, we thought it prudent to take the week to recover :o)

05 Jul	Once again this weekend saw the UKs premier outdoor event Cliffhanger at Millhouses Park in Sheffield and for the 2nd time we attended and gave over 420 Free taster sessions to Children and adults - the weather was great, the public had smiles on their faces and our team were brilliant as usual. Thanks to everyone who helped out with organization, logistics, coaching, and admin, the list is a long one so I wont mention names but you all know who you are - We Make An Amazing Team So Well Done Everyone. Next weekend is On The Waterfront so we have to do it all again!!!

26 Jun	Next weekend sees Sheffield City Kayak Club once again attend the UK's premier outdoor event Cliffhanger, we will be providing free taster sessions to anyone who wishes to try kayaking, with over 20'000 people attending Cliffhanger last year and that this time it looks to be even bigger and better, we are expecting a great turnout and a busy but very fulfilling weekend. If any members are willing to give up their time over the weekend then get in touch with Tony who will add you to the rota.

22 Jun	This Thursday night on the river is for the Scout Group only - although help is needed to facilitate this so please get in touch with Tony if you can lend a hand.

17 Jun	Unfortunately the Zest Pool Centre will be closing its doors after our next pool session which is on the 25th June - the centre is being refurbished and will not re-open until October time - alternative arrangements are being made so check back for updates.

30 May	Karen and Adam are having a BBQ next Saturday at about 4pm for any members who want to join us then drop us an email.

08 May	Some good offers have been spotted in Lidl today - Full ladies wetsuits £24.99, Shorties £19.99 and 5mm Wetsuit Boots with good soles are only £8.99 check out your local store for stock.

03 May	Bob has donated 2 new DVDs to the Club Library - Ejs Playboating basics and Ejs River Running Advanced, both are great with lots to take out of them.

01 May	Go Paddling week is just around the corner and SCKC are holding open paddling sessions for members and the public on Sunday 2nd, Monday 3rd, and Thursday 6th May, check out the events page for details and times.

16 Apr	The Gripple sustainable development day is set for Wednesday the 21st April, we will be meeting at their factory on Saville Street at 12pm for a 1pm prompt start, The Race Is On.

22 Mar	The summer evening river sessions are about to get underway starting with the first official session on April the 15th - we begin at 6.30pm. Equipment will need to be booked as normal so please give Tony plenty of notice if you require a boat etc. Also on the 1st & 8th of April we will be preparing the river as much as possible for the summer season and if you can lend a hand with moving rocks, vegetation etc then please come along, again we'll be meeting at 6.30pm and working through till dusk.

21 Mar	Another fantastic morning on the Don - 2* stuff is progressing nicely, water level was good and the sun was shining.

27 Feb	Unfortunately tomorrow mornings paddling session at Ball Street has had to be cancelled due to high water levels and more persistant rain forecast throughout the night.

31 Jan	A great session on the river this morning and on the Loxley last weekend but next sunday we will be holding a forward paddling workshop from the canal basin out towards meadowhall - if anyone wants to join us then contact Tony to make sure equipment will be available. See you all on Friday night at the pool.

7 Jan	Due to the adverse weather conditions that we are experiencing at the minute we have thought it prudent to cancel this Fridays pool session, we have also cancelled Sunday mornings river session but for anyone interested we will be snow kayaking in the Rivelin Valley, if members want to give it a go then contact Tony for times etc.
